Hike to Virgin Falls

November 25, 2010

These photos were taken the weekend the time changed.  We were on a road trip and, turns out, just an hour or so east of Nashville the rest of Tennessee is on Eastern time, and we camped somewhere right around there.  I’m curious what it would be like to live on the edge of a time zone, like it’s 3pm in Ann Arbor and 4pm in Ypsilanti.  It would probably be super annoying.  When I lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana my freshman year of high school, they didn’t even change their time at all, which just makes it all the more confusing for everyone else.  So when we woke up that morning, my phone said 8am, Drew’s said 9am and the car said 10am.  It’s so strange to not know what time it is, especially when you’re out in nature for the day and can’t tell if the sun says it’s high noon or three o’clock in the afternoon.  Which is the very reason we didn’t make it all the way to Virgin Falls, hiking is not fun anymore if you have to do it in the dark.  But we did make it this far, to a giant cave with a waterfall.  Can’t wait to come back next year and camp inside that cave.
