The Dinner Project: Week 1

January 17, 2011

I have been inspired to start a new project, The Dinner Project.  This girl Astrid, whose blog I’ve been reading for a while, wrote down every dinner she ate for an entire year and I’m not sure exactly why I found it so compelling, but I’ve decided to copy her idea. There’s something so fascinating about what people eat for dinner and to see it all laid out week-by-week. To remember that random Tuesday in July when your cupboards were empty and you didn’t feel like going to the store so you whipped up a meal out of nothing, or when you tried to cook duck for the first time, or a date night out at a new restaurant. I’m excited about this project even though, in all honesty, it feels a little bit exposing.  But I think that’s a good thing so I’m going to do my very best to stick with it for the whole year.  So, here it goes, The Dinner Project: Week 1.

Monday, January 10, 2011: Lemon chicken thighs & brown rice with adobo seasoning and peas (chicken thighs never tasted so good)

Tuesday, January 11, 2011: Pasta with a good amount of olive oil, garlic, chickpeas, red pepper flakes and parsley

Wednesday, January 12, 2011: Red lentil dal with fresh ginger and cilantro, hot curry brown rice & oatmeal raisin cookies for dessert

Thursday, January 13, 2011: Roasted tomato soup with small pasta shells, homemade rosemary thyme crackers & white bean dip (photo above)

Friday, January 14, 2011: Corn pancakes topped with a poached egg & chimichurri sauce & a side salad of chopped green cabbage with sesame dressing (this dinner was incredibly delicious)

Saturday, January 15, 2011: Slice of homemade bread with sharp cheddar cheese (after a late late lunch)

Sunday, January 16, 2011: Salmon burgers & roasted sweet potato medallions brushed with rosemary & lemon zest

I love the idea.. but to make it even more addictive, you need to post a picture of your plate.
And i must say you need to add your desert !!!! that’ll make us even more envious.
Have fun, liiking forward to drooling in front of your posts.

Hmmm… I don’t know about this. If the rest of your year’s dinners are anything like your first week’s (homemade rosemary thyme crackers?! poached egg & chimichurri sauce?!!!), reading your posts will sorely point out how lame my own year of eating will be:

Day one: veggie sticks, hummus, and white cheese slabs. No dessert.

Day two: baked feedlot chicken, burnt Simplot® potatoes, overcooked soggy broccoli w/o butter (fresh out!) & two tablespoons of white frosting for desert.

Day three: Chili, Fritos®, ChiChi’s® mild salsa, and a cold wedge of iceberg. Four tablespoons Pillsbury® sugar cookie dough, no milk (fresh out!) for dessert.

    Repeat. Repeat again.

Though on second thought, perhaps you’ll inspire me to branch out or at least go buy some butter.
